HC Deb 10 July 1974 vol 876 cc489-90W
Mr. Budgen

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what rules are laid down governing the procedure whereby taxpayers are invited or otherwise obliged to attend offices of the Inland Revenue to give an explanation of their tax affairs; and what rules govern any subsequent interview.

Dr. Gilbert

Whether or not a taxpayer is invited to attend a personal interview to discuss his affairs is a matter for the appropriate inspector of taxes. The taxpayer is, of course, under no obligation to attend. If the hon. Member has a particular case in mind, perhaps he would write to me with the details and I will have the matter looked into.
