HC Deb 09 July 1974 vol 876 c463W
Mr. Wm. Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, what was the result of the meeting which he had with the Police Council on 20th June, in so far as it touched upon the subject of a special allowance for the RUC.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given to the hon. Member for Antrim, North (Rev. Ian Paisley) on 27th June 1974.—[Vol. 785, c.493.] Negotiations are proceeding.

Mr. Wm. Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, since members of the RUC Reserve have not received an increase of pay for part-time duty since 1st November 1972 and full-time members have, whether he will now restore the position of the RUC Reserve in regard to pay.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

The pay of part-time members of the RUC is at present under review.

Mr. Wm. Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether he will now bring the annual basic rate for the RUC Reserve up to at least the minimum bounty paid to the UDR, paid on the same terms.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

The nature of the duties and conditions of service in the two forces are substantially different and there are no plans to relate the respective levels of bounty.
