HC Deb 09 July 1974 vol 876 cc442-3W
Mr. Walters

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is his latest estimate for the supply of pig-meat for 1975 compared to 1974 given the continuing high rate of slaughter of sows.

Mr. Buchan

Forecasts of future supplies are inevitably uncertain, but the decline in the United Kingdom breeding herd which began last autumn can be expected to lead to reduced domestic production in the coming months and into the new year. The level of pigmeat production in 1975 as a whole will be affected by the extent to which the easing in the rate of sow slaughterings since March is maintained.
