HC Deb 09 July 1974 vol 876 cc455-6W
Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what amount of grants have been made to industry; through the Industry Act, since January of this year.

Mr. Heffer

Approximately £90 million during the first six months of 1974.

Mr. Heffer

Records of expenditure on regional incentives are not kept for individual industries, and I regret therefore that this information is not available. Assistance given specifically to the textile industry was as follows:

£'000s
1969–70 5,063
1970–71 3,368
1971–72 3,162
1972–73 1,687
1973–74 1,758

These totals include grants to textile research associations, grants-in-aid to the Textile Council—1970–71—and Clothing Export Council—1969–70 and 1970–71—and loans—gross of repayments—from the Industrial Reorganisation Corporation in the years up to and including 1971–72.
