HC Deb 08 July 1974 vol 876 cc386-7W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many places are available in List D schools; how many of these places were occupied at the most recent date for which figures are available; and what were the comparable figures on the same date in each of the previous four years.

Mr. William Ross

In June 1974 there were 1,736 places in the List D schools. Occupancy varies from day to day depending on the circumstances of individual schools, but practically all the available places are at present occupied. The situation in June in the four previous years was as follows.

Approved accommodation Number on roll
1970 1,866 1,633
1971 1,844 1,646
1972 1,813 1,544
1973 1,762 1,518

One school with 55 places ceased to be a List D school in February 1974 but continues to admit girls placed under residential supervision requirements by children's hearings.
