HC Deb 08 July 1974 vol 876 c327W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what was the average price per therm of gas charged in Great Britain, Scotland, England and Wales respectively during the most recent annual period for which figures are available: and what percentage increase would have been charged in England and Wales if there had been a uniform price throughout Great Britain.

Mr. Strang

The average revenue per therm from gas sold in 1972–73 was 7.25p for Great Britain, 10.61p for Scotland, and 7.10p for England and Wales. These figures reflect differences in the pattern and level of consumption as well as variations in tariffs. The answer to the second part of the Question is not readily calculable.
