HC Deb 05 July 1974 vol 876 cc320-2W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is the policy of Her Majesty's Government towards the Romanian Government's intention to invest in British sector North Sea oil and gas.

Mr. Strang

The Romanian Government have put forward no proposals for consideration by Her Majesty's Government.

Mr. Watt

asked the Secretary of State for Energy how many wellheads will be required to exploit each oilfield in the Scottish sector of the North Sea.

Mr. Strang

The number of wells required to develop an oilfield depends upon its size and reservoir characteristics. The fields so far discovered in the waters off Scotland vary widely in both these respects so that the number of wells required varies from as few as six to over 100 for the different fields.

Mr. Bruce-Gardyne

asked the Secretary of State for Energy whether it remains his expectation that 5 million tons of North Sea oil will be landed in 1975.

Mr. Strang,

pursuant to his reply [OFFICIAL REPORT, 1St July 1974; Vol. 876, c. 17–18], gave the following information:

Delays in the construction and installation of platforms have increased the chance of a further reduction in the estimated production in 1975.
