HC Deb 05 July 1974 vol 876 cc302-3W
Mr. Craigen

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement about recent meetings between British Ministers and the Prime Minister of Malta.

Mr. James Callaghan

On 28th June, during his recent visit to London, the Prime Minister of Malta, the Honourable Dom Mintoff, had talks with my right hon. Friends the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State for Defence, as well as myself.

In the course of wide-ranging discussions of both international and bilateral questions agreement was reached on the resumption by the Government of Malta of the servicing of outstanding British Exchequer loans and on the provision of further British technical assistance to Malta.

The talks, which were conducted in a very cordial atmosphere, served to reaffirm and to strengthen the close links between Malta and the United Kingdom. It will be the continuing aim of Her Majesty's Government to maintain and further develop their friendly relations with the Government of Malta.
