HC Deb 05 July 1974 vol 876 cc298-9W
Mr. Ovenden

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he will make a statement on the industrial dispute at Fleetway Printers, Northfleet, and state what action is being taken by his Department to bring the dispute to a speedy conclusion.

Mr. Booth

During the recent national dispute in the printing industry some 50 members of the Society of Graphical and Allied Trades employed at Fleetway Printers, Gravesend, refused certain work and were informed that no payment would be made for the period of refusal. About 200 union members took strike action in protest from 13th June. The strike continues in support of the union's claim for payment for the period of refusal and for the period following the end of the national dispute on 24th June. Representatives of the company and the union are meeting under my Department's chairmanship tomorrow.
