HC Deb 04 July 1974 vol 876 c221W
17. Rear-Admiral Morgan-Giles

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what further representations he has received concerning the difficulties facing pig producers; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Peart

I have received a number of representations, in particular from the National Farmers' Union. I have nothing to add to what I said in the debate on 26th June.

51. Sir P. Bryan

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make an estimate of the amount by which the price of feed must fall in order to make the current price of pigs profitable to the producer.

Mr. Buchan

Pig producers' costs and returns vary. A meaningful estimate of the sort requested is not therefore possible, although clearly recent falls in feed costs must have been of significant help to producers.
