HC Deb 04 July 1974 vol 876 cc232-3W
61. Mr. David Price

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will conduct a cost-benefit analysis of the economic effects of the United Kingdom withdrawing from the European Economic Community and publish a summary of the conclusions.

Mr. Dell

As my right hon. Friend the Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary made clear in his statement to the Council of Ministers on 1st April, we are negotiating for success, not failure. A report of the kind suggested by the hon. Member would be premature at this stage.

Mr. Lee

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the total amount of public funds from all sources which have been made available to pro-Common Market organisations during the last 10 years, to the latest available date.

Mr. Hattersley

I have been asked to reply.

Grants from public funds are not determined by the attitudes of organisations towards the EEC.

Under a four-year programme to improve cultural contacts between the United Kingdom and West European countries announced on 6th March 1972, grants totalling £296,000 have been made to 31st March 1974 to a number of nongovernmental organisations involved in visits and exchanges with European countries both inside and outside the European Communities.—[Vol. 832, c. 222–4.]
