HC Deb 04 July 1974 vol 876 cc266-7W
Mr. Reid

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland when he expects work to commence on the provision of a new dining room, staff facilities, and new children's toilets at Carron primary school, Larbert; and whether he will make a statement on the delays experienced in providing the extension to date.

Mr. William Ross

These works are part of the reconstruction and extension of the school for which Stirlingshire Education Authority was given approval in principle in 1972. Later in the same year the authority agreed that the proposed area of the building should be reduced, and revised accommodation proposals which it submitted in August 1973 were approved in the following month. My Department considered that the estimated costs submitted in February 1974 were too high, however, and, following discussion with the authority, now awaits the submission of adjusted proposals. I cannot, therefore, yet say when work is likely to start.
