HC Deb 04 July 1974 vol 876 cc225-6W
47. Mr. Wells

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what will be the effects of the change in the implementation of the calf subsidy in Northern Ireland; and whether the change will raise or lower the payments received by beef producers in Northern Ireland.

Mr. Buchan

The change will increase the calf subsidies by £10 per head as from 1st July in Northern Ireland as in the rest of the United Kingdom. Although the increase in the calf subsidy is slightly lower than the special beef scheme payments recently made in Northern Ireland the total effect of the various actions announced by my right hon. Friend recently should be to strengthen beef producers returns.
