asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the construction of the new Hull—Beverley trunk road and the associated Beverley South-West bypass.

The Beverley South-West bypass is the only improvement on the A1079 trunk road for which my right hon. Friend is responsible. He hopes to be able to publish draft orders for the route by the end of the year. Dualling of a short length of the A1079, now nearing completion within the Hull city boundary, is being carried out by the Humberside County Council.
