HC Deb 03 July 1974 vol 876 cc160-1W
38. Mr. Spearing

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if, in pursuit of his policy to maximise freight haulage by rail, he will give a general direction to the British Railways Board to assess the potential traffic available to them from docks and port installations not at present linked to the national rail network.

Mr. Carmichael

A general direction would be inappropriate. The board is continually reviewing freight opportunities.

Mr. Gray

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement about the future of the railway line from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh.

Mr. Mulley

I am considering the future of this line in consultation with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland.
