HC Deb 03 July 1974 vol 876 c169W
69. Mr. Christopher Price

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what action he is taking about the danger to the public from the collapse of buildings constructed of pre-stressed concrete and post-tensioning; and whether he will set up a special unit in his Department to undertake an immediate national survey.

Mr. Freeson

Every effort is being made to identify all buildings with roofs having isolated pre-stressed beams of high alumind cement concrete. Their owners are being advised either to close them or to take temporary safeguarding measures until engineering appraisals of the buildings have been made. As a precautionary measure a survey will also be made of a sample of other buildings with structural members of precast and pre-stressed concrete. Further action will depend on the result of this.
