HC Deb 03 July 1974 vol 876 cc209-10W
Mr. Moonman

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services when the first meeting of the Max Piazzani inquiry will take place; and when it is expected to be completed.

Dr. Owen

The committee which will consider what lessons can be learned from the case of Max Piazzani held its first meeting on 1st July. It is too soon to predict when the committee will complete its task.

Mr. Moonman

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT the guidelines provided for the committee of inquiry into the death of the battered baby, Max Piazzani.

Dr. Owen

The terms of reference of the committee to which my hon. Friend refers were contained in my reply to his Question on 14th May—[Vol. 873, c396]. They are to inquire into and report upon the co-ordination of the services for the prevention and management of cases of non-accidental injury to children and to consider what lessons can be learned from the case of Max Piazzani.

The committee is determining its own procedure but the report of the committee is to be published.
