Mr. Adleyasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what steps he is taking to ensure that new privately-built houses, now able to be acquired by local authorities, conform to the standards which would normally be required in houses built by local authorities: and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. FreesonHouses built by local authorities have to conform to minimum Parker Morris standards, but it would be impracticable to insist that all new privately-built houses acquired by local authorities should be modified to meet those standards. As an acceptable alternative we are prepared to approve 177W schemes involving houses built to the standards of the National House Building Council by builders registered with the council.
