HC Deb 03 July 1974 vol 876 cc165-6W
60. Rear-Admiral Morgan-Giles

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what guidance he has issued to local authorities concerning the policy for allocation of council houses to ex-Service men.

Mr. Freeson

A Ministry of Housing and Local Government Circular No. 60/ 65, recommended that local authorities should accept applications from ex-Service men with family connections in the locality, or who have found employment there, exclusively on the basis of housing need. A report of the Central Housing Advisory Committee "Council Housing: Purposes, Procedures and Priorities", recommended sympathetic treatment for ex-Service men. This guidance was and still is commended to all local authorities. I am, however, considering whether further advice is necessary.
