HC Deb 02 July 1974 vol 876 cc93-4W
Mr. Moate

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what would be the approximate cost of increasing students' grants to allow for the payment of national insurance contributions at unemployed rates.

Mr. Gerry Fowler

I have been asked to reply.

If the level of mandatory and teacher training students grants were raised by a sum equal to 52 weeks' national insurance contributions at current rates, the cost for Great Britain would be about £27 million in a year.
