HC Deb 02 July 1974 vol 876 cc148-50W
Mr. Pardoe

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT the total number of motor invalid tricycles with manually operated gearbox, motor invalid tricycles with automatic transmission, electrically propelled invalid tricycles, four-wheeled cars or travellers with manually operated gearbox and four-wheeled cars or travellers with automatic transmission, respectively, which were on issue in Northern Ireland for the years 1969–70, 1970–71, 1971–72, 1972–73, 1973–74, as at 31st March of each respective year.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

It is regretted that the full figures requested could not be provided without a disproportionate use of resources. However, the numbers of vehicles of the various types on issue on 20th June 1974 were as follows:

Motor propelled tricycles (manual) 216
Motor propelled tricycles (automatic) 246
Electrically propelled tricycles 8
Four-wheeled cars 98

It is not possible from the records available to distinguish between four-wheeled cars with automatic transmission and those with manually operated gears.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

It is regretted that this information could not be provided without a disproportionate use of resources.

Mr. Pardoe

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT the total number of disabled learned drivers of motor invalid tricycles with manually operated gearbox, motor invalid tricycles with automatic transmission, electrically propelled invalid tricycles, four-wheeled cars or travellers with manually operated gearbox and four-wheeled cars or travellers with automatic transmission, respectively, who were involved in accidents in Northern Ireland for the years 1969–70, 1970–71, 1971–72, 1972–73, 1973–74, as at 31st March of each respective year, listing the numbers killed and injured, respectively.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

No disabled learner-drivers were killed in accidents in Northern Ireland during these years. It is not possible to say without a disproportionate use of resources how many were injured.
