HC Deb 02 July 1974 vol 876 cc108-9W
Mr. Watt

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food to what degree is England self-sufficient in fish and fish products having regard to landings in England and English patterns of consumption.

Mr. Buchan

It is impracticable to give a figure in the absence of statistics of total fish consumption in particular parts of the United Kingdom, or of internal movements of British and imported supplies either before or after any processing involved. However, fish landed by British vessels at Scottish and at English ports during 1973 comprised 42 per cent. and 41 per cent. respectively, of total United Kingdom supplies of fresh and frozen fish, including imports.
