asked the Secretary of State for Industry whether he will make a statement on Government aid to shipbuilding in Sunderland.

My Department is considering an application for assistance under the Industry Act from Austin and Pickersgill Ltd. The Government's acquisition of Sunderland Shipbuilders Ltd. will allow its major modernisation scheme to continue without disruption.
