HC Deb 01 July 1974 vol 876 c53W
Mr. Morgan

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many properties in rural Wales there are in respect of which a sewerage rate is payable, although no kind of sewerage service is provided for them; and what progress he is making in his consultations on removing this obligation from the occupiers of such properties.

Mr. John Morris

A survey in 1970 showed that there were then about 96,000 properties in Wales not connected to main drainage facilities, virtually all of them in rural areas. The first step to resolving the problem has been taken by the Welsh National Water Development Authority, which has asked all district councils within its area to identify those properties which still have no such facilities.
