HC Deb 01 July 1974 vol 876 cc54-5W
Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many miles of dual carriageway have been started since 1970 in Gwynedd, Powys and Dyfed, respectively; and what will be the total mileage of dual carriageway to have been constructed in each of these counties by 1975.

Mr. John Morris

The information is as follows:

Mileage
Started since 1970 Constructed by 1975
Dyfed 1.96 2.49
Gwynedd 4.14
Powys 1.00 1.50
2.96 8.13

In these counties where there are no large towns and volumes of traffic are relatively light, the aim is to provide good quality single carriageway roads with lengths of dual carriageway at the points of heaviest pressure.

Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is the number of miles of motorway (a) per capita and (b) per square miles in Wales.

Mr. John Morris

Figures for the lengths of motorway (M4) already in use are (a) per capita,.00001; (b) per square mile in Wales, .003.

When the M4 is completed the figures are expected to be: (a) per capita, .00003; (b) per square mile in Wales, 0.10.
