Mr. Newens

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if the recent nuclear test was in any way connected with the replacement of the present warhead used in Polaris missiles by a different type of missile.

I cannot add to the statement made by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister in the House on 24th June.

Mr. Newens

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he proposes to replace the warhead in the Polaris missiles by a different type of warhead at some future date.

Mr. Mason

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he has made arrangements to obtain replacement components for the Polaris missiles when the United States of America phases out its own Polaris missiles.

Mr. Mason

The Polaris force will continue to be supported with replacement components supplied under the terms of the Polaris Sales Agreement.
