HC Deb 01 July 1974 vol 876 c63W
Mr. Bruce-Gardyne

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what was the aggregate cost to public funds of Exchequer subsidies to London Transport in the last period of 12 months for which figures are available; and what proportion this represents of total London Transport revenues from all sources.

Mr. Mulley

The London Transport Executive's report and accounts for the calendar year 1973 show that capital grants from the Government to the executive amounted to £19.8 millions out of the executive's total capital expenditure of £42.4 millions. The grants were towards railway infrastructure, new buses and research and development. The Government made no contribution to the executive's total receipts on revenue account of some £175 millions.
