§ Mr. Onslowasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what were the numbers of deaths from cholera, smallpox, typhoid and malaria, respectively, in England and Wales in each of the years 1969 to 1973.
§ Dr. OwenThe number of deaths in England and Wales were as follows:
of a new pay claim, over and above the increase already negotiated with effect from 1st April 1974, that the society had asked the Staff Side of the Whitley Council to consider making. This did not include a claim for a link with the Scientific Civil Service. I understand an amended form of this claim was submitted to the management side on 20th May and considered by the council on 29th May. Consideration was then adjourned whilst the joint secretaries wrote to me to seek clarification of the reference to radiographers in my statement during the debate on National Health Service pay on 23rd May about the establishment of the inquiry into the pay and conditions of work of nurses and midwives. I have since been discussing this matter further with both sides of the council and I hope to make an announcement shortly.—[Vol. 874, c. 691.]
