HC Deb 01 July 1974 vol 876 c65W
Mr. Sedgemore

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations he has had from property companies to end the control of business rents; and why he has decided to end the control of business rents by May 1976.

Mr. John Silkin

There have been few such representations from individual property companies, but the National Association of Property Owners has urged the removal of control over business rents. The control is effected through the powers of the Counter-Inflation Act 1973. The powers expire in March 1976, and I have no proposals to seek a renewal of them for this purpose.
