asked the Secretary of State for Employment what are the most recent figures for unemployment in the areas covered by his Department's offices in Macclesfield and Congleton; and how these compare with the figures for October, November and December 1973.

On 14th January 1974 there were also 4,220 workers in Macclesfield who were temporarily stopped, that is, who had a job but were temporarily suspended from work and were registered in order to claim benefits. There were no temporarily stopped workers in Congleton on the day of the count but about 2,560 workers in the area were temporarily stopped for some other part of the week. On 10th December 1973 there were no temporarily stopped workers registered at either exchange but on 12th November and 8th October there were respectively five and four such workers registered at Macclesfield exchange.
