asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will publish the number of girls under the age of 17 years who have been committed to prison since January 1973.

Figures for 1971 and 1972 were published in Table C.12 of the Report of the Work of the Prison Department Statistical Tables (Cmnd. 5498). My noble Friend the Minister of State is arranging for the analysis of such information as is now available for 1973 and will write to the hon. Member.
