HC Deb 25 January 1974 vol 867 c388W
Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many retirement pensioners live in Scotland ; and what the cost would be of doubling retirement pensions only for Scottish pensioners.

Mr. Dean

An estimated 674,000 at November 1972. The extra cost of doubling these pensions, at present rates and without allowing for changes in other benefits, would be an estimated £260 million a year.
