Mr. John E. B. Hill

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science when she expects to appoint a chairman for the committee of inquiry into the education of handicapped children.

In conjunction with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland and my right hon. and learned Friend the Secretary of State for Wales, and after consultation with my right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Social Services and Employment, I have invited Mrs. Mary Warnock, Research Fellow in Philosophy at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, to serve as chairman, and she has agreed to do so. I shall proceed with the appointment of members as soon as possible.
