HC Deb 25 January 1974 vol 867 c365W
Mr. Bruce-Gardyne

Subject to assumptions about the relatively small labour forces on oil rigs, the annual average totality rate appears to be between two and three per 1,000.

Accidents according to the seriousness of injury are not analysed by the various authorities except as follows:

Serious injuries per 1,000 employes
Coalmining 2.2 2.1 2.2 1.8*
Quarrying 1.9 1.9 2.1 2.6
Severe injuries per 1,000 emploveest
Construction 9.2 8.1 7.5 8.0
* These figures are affected by the industrial dispute which closed NCB mines between 10th January and 28th February.
†The definition is specific to notifications under the Factories Act: it is wider in scope than "serious injuries" under the Mines and Quarries Act.
