HC Deb 25 January 1974 vol 867 cc366-7W
Mr. Faulds

asked the Minister for Energy if he will issue a general direction to the CEGB that, wherever practicable, waste heat should not be dispersed in cooling towers or rivers and estuaries but used as district heating for domestic and industrial premises.

Mr. Emery

The CEGB already has a relevant statutory duty under Section 50 of the Electricity Act 1947 as amended by the Electricity Act 1957.

Mr. Rost

asked the Minister for Energy what discussions he is having with the CEGB to ensure that new power stations are designed to apply heat usually wasted in cooling systems for district heating.

Mr. Emery

As part of the review necessitated by recent changes in the energy situation my officials are inviting the board to discuss this matter with them.
