HC Deb 24 January 1974 vol 867 c356W
Mr. Delargy

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will reopen the social security office at Corringham so that local people be spared the expense and inconvenience of travelling several miles.

Mr. Dean

No. I know of no evidence which could justify such a move. The Stanford-le-Hope / Corringham caller office was closed in October 1972 because there was insufficient caller business to support the provision of such a facility. Since most business with the Department can be transacted by post and taking into account the additional arrangements for persons to be visited in their own homes where necessary, there should be little need for persons in the Corringham area to travel to Grays.
