§ Mr. Bruce-Gardyneasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether, in the course of his discussions with the Scottish Council regarding the conditions governing payment of its grant-in-aid, he will instruct the council in future to devote a part of its resources to a survey of the financial health of native Scottish family businesses, with a view to formulating proposals for fiscal reforms designed to preserve the identity and independence of such firms.
§ Mr. Gordon CampbellIt would not be appropriate for me to give the Scottish Council such an instruction. I know, however, that the council is very conscious of its responsibilities to indigenous industry and already allocates resources to its encouragement and assistance. It is also aware of my hon. Friend's interest in the matter as expressed in his remarks during Questions on 21st November last year.
