HC Deb 23 January 1974 vol 867 cc309-10W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether he will now make a statement giving full details of the persons and organisations with whom he had discussions before introducing the three-day working week.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin

I have been asked to reply.

My right hon. friend the Prime Minister explained to the House on 9th January why discussions did not take place with the Trades Union Congress on the evening before the three-day working week was announced, but before the restrictions came into operation discussions were held with the Electricity Council, the Confederation of British Industry, the Retail Consortium, the Trades Union Congress and the Associated British Chambers of Commerce.
