Mr. Deakins

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what changes he anticipates in payments for debt interest between 1973–74 and 1974–75.

Mr. Tom Boardman

The White Paper on Public Expenditure (Cmnd. 5519) shows a reduction next year in public sector debt interest from £2,950 million to £2,800 million at 1973–74 prices. I have nothing to add to this at present.
