HL Deb 21 January 1974 vol 348 cc1275-6WA
LORD AVEBURY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have decided to continue with the project of converting Bilsborrow Hall for use as judges' lodgings notwithstanding the cuts in public expenditure announced recently by the Chancellor of the Exchequer.

BARONESS YOUNG

In view of the urgent need to contain public expenditure of all kinds a start on adaptation work at Bilsborrow Hall has already been deferred for several months. In common with all other capital projects the position will be reviewed as soon as practicable.

LORD AVEBURY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will now publish a comparison of the tenders for alterations to Bilsborrow Hall with the original estimates.

BARONESS YOUNG

The work referred to has been put out to tender only once and the lowest tender received is still under consideration because the adaptation work at Bilsborrow Hall has been deferred in view of the urgent need to contain public expenditure of all kinds.
