HC Deb 18 January 1974 vol 867 c198W
Mr. Meacher

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the definition of a "suspended worker", as given in his answer in the OFFICIAL REPORT on 21st December 1973, column 473.

Mr. Dean

The reference to a suspended worker in my answer to the hon. Member on 21st December 1973 (Vol. 866, c.473.]—was to a person whose employment has, in the terms of Section 3(1)(a) of the National Insurance Act 1966, not been terminated but … has been suspended by the employer".

The expressions "terminated" and "suspended by the employer" are not defined in the legislation but are for interpretation by the independent statutory authorities in the light of the circumstances of any particular claim to benefit.
