HC Deb 15 January 1974 vol 867 c43W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what progress has been made in his general revision of the subordinate legislation governing the welfare of animals during transport, including an order for the protection of livestock during carriage by air: and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Fenner

It is hoped that two orders to improve the existing safeguards for the welfare of farm animals and horses, and of poultry, during transport will be made this year. The proposals for poultry would cover carriage by air as well as by other means.

The Transit of Animals (General) Order which came into effect on 1st September 1973 provides general safeguards for the welfare of all warm and cold-blooded species during transport by air as well as by land and sea.
