HC Deb 06 February 1974 vol 868 c332W
Mrs. MacDonald

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is satisfied that foreign crew members of the accommodation ships in Nigg Bay are subject to effective health examinations.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

Crew members of the accommodation ships in Nigg Bay are seamen in transit and as such are not subject to medical examination by the immigration authorities. I am satisfied that if a crew member falls ill effective medical treatment is provided. Following the recent diagnosis of tuberculosis in a seaman the local hospital arranged as a precautionary measure for the other members of the ship's crew to be X-rayed.
