HC Deb 06 February 1974 vol 868 c340W
Mr. Meacher

asked the Minister for Energy, in addition to the 7 million units of electricity saved each week since 1st January as a result of the 10.30 p.m. terminating of television viewing, how much has been saved by other restrictions on the broadcasting media; what percentage these savings represent of total electricity consumption in these weeks; and what percentage they represent of million tons coal equivalent held by power stations.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin

There are no other restrictions on the broadcasting media but the prohibition on the use of electricity for heating—except for a period of eight hours at night—affects television studios. The saving achieved by this cannot be separately identified.
