HC Deb 05 February 1974 vol 868 c259W
17. Mr. Carter

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what was the maxi mum number of persons put on short time as the result of the three-day week.

Mr. Scott

The highest number of persons estimated as laid off and claiming unemployment benefit since the power restrictions commenced was 916,000 on 9th January. Most, if not all, of this short-time working can be attributed to the three-day week.
