HC Deb 04 February 1974 vol 868 c220W
Mr. Roderick

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will seek to end the situation whereby Charolais cattle are allowed into Great Britain, but France will not allow imports of Herefords and Welsh Blacks for breeding purposes.

Mr. Anthony Stodart

We have through negotiations with the French authorities achieved some success in opening the way for exports of our cattle to France for breeding purposes. We shall continue to follow this course, but the best prospect for our exports lies through the discussions which have been proceeding within EEC on a draft directive aimed at harmonising intra-Community trade in breeding cattle.
