HC Deb 01 February 1974 vol 868 c194W
Mr. Pardoe

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many people in England, Wales, and Scotland, respectively, have been refused unemployment pay in the past 12 months on the grounds that they are seasonal workers; and how many of these were over the age of 55 years.

Mr. Dean

During the year ended 30th November 1973, the latest period for which figures are available, the number of seasonal workers whose claims for unemployment benefit were disallowed in their off season was 2,320, 278 and 399 in England, Wales and Scotland respectively. These figures do not include those people who refrain from claiming because they are aware that, as seasonal workers, they are not entitled to benefit in their off season. There are no figures to show how many of those whose claims were disallowed were over the age of 55 years.

Mr. Pardoe

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many registered disabled persons in England, Wales, Scotland and Cornwall, respectively, were refused unemployment pay in the past 12 months on the grounds that they were seasonal workers.
