HC Deb 01 February 1974 vol 868 cc199-200W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether, in view of the difficulties experienced in obtaining supplies of polythene packing in the food industry, for which such material is required in the interests of hygiene, he will enter into discussions with the CBI with a view to limiting polythene wrapping for luxury goods and for less essential purposes.

Mr. Anthony Grant

The manufacture of plastic packaging for food has already been made exempt from the restrictions imposed under the Electricity (Industrial and Commercial Use) (Control) (No. 2) Order 1973. My Department and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food are keeping the situation under review. If serious shortages arise we will consider what further measures may be necessary.
