HC Deb 20 December 1974 vol 883 c611W
Mr. Ridley

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the acreage of timber in private owner ship in the United Kingdom: and what is its average market value per acre.

Mr.Strang

It is estimated that there are roughly 2 million acres of privately-owned plantations in Great Britain managed mainly for timber production although not all these woodlands are as yet producing timber. The Forestry Com mission does not maintain statistics on average market values of plantations in the private sector.
