HC Deb 20 December 1974 vol 883 cc614-5W
Mr. Jopling

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will take immediate steps to rescind the order recently issued by his Depart ment to destroy all drainage maps which were over 20 years old, in view of the fact that these maps are often the only record of the details of land drainage.

Mr. Strang

No. These maps are on files related to grant-aided field drainage work. They are no longer required for administrative use, and the manpower and expense involved in maintaining them for other purposes cannot be justified. We assume that most farmers retain their own copies of drainage maps and other records necessary for the proper management of their businesses.
